A rural office garden

A large pile of rubble and earth stood in the middle of the space to be landscaped. This area needed to contain a car parking area, a tranquil space for employees to enjoy and a place to host occasional summer concerts.

The rubble and earth were moulded into a large grass bund/earthwork echoing the shape of the hills, which rise up in front of the old barn buildings. The earthwork while conveniently hiding the cars from the view of the garden and offices, curves around a central pond which attracts wildlife – and even the occasional bather.

The gravel garden provides areas for planting, and picnic tables for al fresco lunches during the summer. Planting was designed to reflect the ecological nature of the business – plants, grasses, and herbs were chosen to attract wildlife, and for their scent and healing properties.
